Introducing Canvas Markup & PNG/PDF Export

For CDX designers, there can be a lot of moving parts and layers of communication involved when building out conversational experiences. This is especially true when working in teams, with stakeholders and with several lines of business. Along with real-time collaboration - which launched in December - Voiceflow’s release of Canvas Markup and Export firmly reiterates the company’s commitment towards providing optimal workflow solutions for those working in teams.

Without the right tools, collaborating on voice applications can be a disjointed, arduous process. Whether it’s providing additional context for conversational flows, outlining user personas, centralizing project documentation, or providing digital copies of your work for client feedback – our latest functionality makes it all possible.

By streamlining this workflow, CDX designers can now focus on the creative aspects of their work and get their voice experience to market faster.

*Canvas Markup & PNG/PDF Export is available on all Pro, Team and Enterprise plans.

Building upon "team" workflows

When Voiceflow launched its new canvas design experience in April, the goal was to empower users to understand the context and direction of their work as best they could. Showcasing the contents of your conversation right on the canvas allowed projects with complex storylines and branching to be better understood using contextual cues (preview text), systematic content organization (steps, interaction model), and a visually intuitive UX.

This was especially beneficial for teams collaborating on a single project or when stakeholder feedback was required. Voiceflow's canvas design experience ultimately allowed users to better understand conversation designs 'at a glance'.

Canvas Markup further builds upon this ground work with an added focus on collaboration and communication between parities - both inside and outside of the tool. There is a lot of additional context needed when it comes to sharing projects among team members. Context that was previously crafted outside of Voiceflow’s creator tool.

Why Canvas Markup and Export?

Canvas Markup

Use Markup to provide context on your canvas

Canvas Markup helps you consolidate a great deal of contextual information directly on the Canvas. You can use Canvas Markup to communicate user interactions, indicate revisions, link to key documents, and provide the context stakeholders need to flesh out your voice experience from a bird’s-eye view. A big win for when you’re jumping into complex projects for the first time. By streamlining this feedback process, stakeholders can now spend less time flipping between documents and more time pushing your experience from build to publish.

And for individual users, Canvas Markup provides the freedom and flexibility to brainstorm ideas, create mind maps, build user personas and contextualize your projects. A perfect way to use creative expression to support your vision.

Functionality

• Import images and resize, rotate and move them anywhere on the canvas
• Add text using custom fonts, weights, decorations or color
• Hyperlink to important documents and resources
• Generate pre-built shapes to provide direction and communicate user flows (Coming Soon)

Using this feature

You can access the canvas markup features by selecting the markup button located in the bottom left of your canvas, or using the "A" hotkey

PNG/PDF Export

Export individual flows using PNG/PDF Export

Canvas Export, like Markup, also works to smooth over the handoff process between designers and stakeholders by making PNG/PDF export possible. Previously, Voiceflow users were unable to share their design ‘artifact’ or conversational flows outside of the tool. This was an issue that needed a solution, as larger design teams required this artifact outside of the tool to facilitate stakeholder feedback and approvals.

For individual creators, use Canvas Export to document and archive your project designs on your personal hard drive. Great for embedding in presentations, external documents and your CDX portfolio.

Functionality

Export any single flow in your project when viewing it
• Export and save your file as a PNG or PDF

Using this feature

You can access the PNG/PDF export function by clicking share and selecting either Image (PNG) or PDF
