Today we’re announcing a new pricing plan structure that marks months of work and research from our team. Notably, we’re making collaboration free, launching and announcing several features, and implementing usage caps on our Starter plan.

Our existing 35,000 users, those who signed up before today, will not be affected by the new Starter plan usage caps.

We couldn’t be more excited for Voiceflow and the future of the platform. I wanted to take a few minutes to explain the changes, and why we made them.

Why we’re implementing this change

Our Voiceflow community is the bedrock of our company. Our community’s passion is endless — whether it’s hosting meetups, collaborating with one another, or writing a 160-page book on Voiceflow. Yes, seriously — that happened.

We’ve had unlimited usage as part of our Starter plan for a while now as we’ve focused on building the best product we can. To give a sense of size for Voiceflow’s usage:

  • 35,000 users spread across 80+ countries
  • 500,000 Voiceflow projects, and 6,000+ live apps on Alexa alone
  • Hosting 350,000,000 utterances per year for VF apps (for free)
  • 100+ meetups/events in 2019

Wow! We’re so excited by these numbers and couldn’t be happier to be a part of a larger community of designers, developers and makers building incredible things.

While we’re amazed at where we are, we couldn’t be more excited about where we’re all collectively taking Voiceflow. Together, we’re working towards building a new set of universal tools to design, prototype, and build voice apps — today for Alexa and Google, with more channels coming in the future. To achieve this future, we need the resources to hire extraordinary people and grow the community and ecosystem.

To make this future possible, we’re introducing a new set of paid plans and offerings to Voiceflow. We’ve spent months debating the structure of these plans and have consulted numerous advisors to ensure we have a good first run. This is the first iteration of this monetization process. Still, with the right community, focus, and feedback, we know we will be able to create value for our creators long-term.

One of the most notable changes is the introduction of hosting tiers for monthly utterances, and a cap on the number of projects to 2 for our Starter tier.

We will not apply these two changes retroactively to our existing 35,000 users in appreciation of your early and continued support. If you signed up for Voiceflow before May 12th, 2020, you will continue to have unlimited projects and hosting. Thank you!

Collaboration is now free

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the best voice apps will be built by cross-functional teams of designers, developers, copywriters, and creatives. Our goal is to support the ecosystem as a whole create amazing voice apps, and to do this, we need to encourage collaboration.

This has become increasingly true as COVID has accelerated the need for collaborative tools as we all work remotely.

As of today, Voiceflow creators will be able to invite an unlimited number of collaborators to their workspace, for free. We're hopeful that through this change, our community will unlock more ways to collaborate and create some truly amazing experiences.

New features coming to PRO and TEAM plans

These new changes reflect the growing maturity of Voiceflow’s professional offering. In addition to pricing plan changes, we’re announcing several new features that will be launching in the coming weeks and months to our PRO and TEAM plans:

  • JSON export of your project
  • PNG/PDF export of your design
  • Canvas markup to add more context to your designs
  • Collaborative commenting system

Thanks to the feedback and support of our creators, we have a nearly endless roadmap of features and improvements planned for Voiceflow — for both our Starter and paid plans. These new plan changes will allow us to expedite our progress and release new features faster, with higher quality.

New onboarding and tutorials

Apart from new features, we’re also launching the beginnings of a new professional tutorial series for Voiceflow. Our amazing marketing team has been hard at work, updating both video and written content to better suit the growing needs of our creators. In the next few weeks, our educational library will be updated to consist of higher quality and expanded resources that match our new toolset and UI.

Here's a sneak peek at the first video in our updated Tutorial series:

Furthermore, we’ve launched a brand new onboarding experience for new Voiceflow users. This new onboarding experience will walk users through the creation of their first project in an easy-to-use and fun way.

In summary

These new changes reflect the growing pace of updates and professionalism of Voiceflow that we hope to achieve for our users. Together, we’re creating tools that advance voice apps and push the industry forward — moving the world to a place where we can have natural, engaging conversations with technology.
